Even individuals who appear to be in great physical shape have some area of their body that they want to improve.  Whether it is having a flatter stomach, better skin or losing those last few pounds, there is something about our bodies that we all want to make better.  Unfortunately, there is no magic pill, powder or product that will help you get the body you want.  Only hard work, dedication and determination will ensure that you reach your goals.

 

Defining the Body That You Want

 

Before you can begin to work on getting the body you want, you must first define that ideal body.  It may be that you want to lose 10 pounds, firm up your muscles, tone your abs or flatten your tummy.  It helps you to be more focused and driven if you have a defined goal.

 

Once you know what you want to change, set goals to help you turn your vision into a reality.  Goals will keep you focused and motivated.  Don’t set goals that will take months to achieve.  You need short-term goals that you can reach within a few weeks to keep you moving forward.  For example, if you want to lose 10 pounds, first start by setting a goal that you will exercise three times each week.  Then set a goal that you will eat vegetables with every meal.  Continue setting small goals that you can achieve which keeps you moving toward your ultimate goal.

 

Five Tips for Getting the Body You Want

 

  • Make Your Goals Public – By telling your friends and family your fitness goals, you will not only receive support and motivation but you will also get some well-intentioned watchdogs.  Verbalizing your goals is using positive reaffirmation to keep you focused on your end goal.
  • Make Healthy Friends – It is much easier to exercise, eat right and live a healthy lifestyle when you are surrounded by people who are making the same lifestyle choices as you.  Form a network of active, healthy friends who will have a positive influence on you.
  • Make Time for Rest – You cannot have the body you want if you do not make rest and relaxation a priority in your life.  Your body needs time to recharge and repair itself from the daily stress you put upon it.  In addition to eating healthy and exercising, you must get at least seven to eight hours of sleep each night.
  • Get Routine Checkups – Part of having the body you want is making sure that it is healthy.  Scheduling routine checkups and diagnostic tests are part of maintaining a healthy body.  See your doctor for routine screenings and make sure you see the dentist at least two times a year.
  • Eat a Variety of Foods – Fad diets do not work.  They may help you lose weight but over time, your body will suffer from a limited diet.  You should eat a variety of foods that include fruits and vegetables (high in vitamins and minerals), lean meat and beans (good source of protein), whole grains (fiber) and low-fat dairy products (calcium and vitamins).  Eating a well-balanced diet will help you achieve your fitness goals and have the body you want.

 

A healthy lifestyle is the easiest way to work on getting the body you want.  When you concentrate of making healthy choices each day, your body will naturally follow along.
